Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT) Corrosion Under Pipe Supports Short Range Ultrasonic Technique (SRUT) was designed mainly to test the Annular Plate of Above Ground Storage Tanks (AST’s) while the tank remains in-service, finding out Corrosion Under Pipe Supports, corrosion at soil air interfaces, and similar difficult to access locations. The technique is based on the concept of pulsing guided laminar waves into the base material from the chime area. The waves propagate up to three feet into the annular plate. When corrosion, pitting, erosion are present the ultrasonic waves mode convert and are received by the same transducer. |

Inspection of Coke Drum Welds with Phased Array and TOFD In Service Phased Array (PA) and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) technique inspection was carried out on Coke Drum Welds at one of the Refineries in India. TechCorr Was the first Indian Service provider to take up this work in IOCL. Bottom circumferential weld joints (Two nos. in each reactor) and skirt joint of the all 4 nos. reactors was inspected with TOFD and/or Phased Array Techniques. All the indications in welds were inspected by only TOFD and were confirmed by UT phased array examination. |

Repair of 36 Meter dia. Tank Roof Plate using Power Sleeve Repair System An in-service Crude Oil Tank in the refinery developed a leak on the Tank Roof Plate. Hot work repair was not permitted since the tank was in live condition and product was continuously flowing through the leak area. The client decided to go for composite repair system. The initial attempts were made to plug the leak using a local wrapping material but could not arrest the leak. |

Advanced Aboveground Storage Tank Inspections – In-Service Robotics This paper describes the tank inspection requirements (such as New Source Performance Standards [NSPS], 40 CFR 60), conventional inspection techniques (out-of-service, manual, confined space entry, and visual), advanced inspection technologies (in-service robotics), benefits derived from using these advanced technologies, and the status of approval of these technologies by regulatory agencies. The authors also review the unique challenges and implementation circumstances associated with advanced inspection technologies. Finally, the authors present a pilot study currently in progress for the application of advanced inspection technologies to an Internal Floating Roof (IFR) tank subject to NSPS Subpart Kb (Standards of Performance for Volatile Organic Liquid Storage Vessels) requirements. |

PDVSA Pipeline Integrity Assessment Project Client: PDVSA Gas Anaco (National Oil Company of Venezuela) TechCorr was contracted by PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.) to perform a baseline assessment on roughly 500 kilometers of production and transmission assets associated with PDVSA Anaco operating division. The pipeline diameters ranged from 2" up to 36" in diameter both buried and above ground. These pipeline transported natural gas between production fields utilized in the gas injection process as a secondary recovery technique when pressurizing oil reservoirs. Failure of these pipelines was estimated to affect over 200,000 barrels of oil production daily as reservoir pressure could not be maintained. |

Pipeline Integrity Assessment Project Client: Toltest Engineering Location: Monathan Airforce Base - Tucson, Arizona TechCorr was contracted by Toltest Engineering to perform a detailed engineering assessment on the critical fuel piping system at Davis Monathan Airforce Base located in Tucson Arizona. The piping system is designed to fuel US Airforce Fighter Jets. The engineering assessment was designed in accordance with API 570 procedures incorporating visual inspection of all equipment components, ultrasonic thickness surveys on equipment components, hydrostatic testing of main fuel pipeline, guided wave ultrasonic testing on main fuel line and cathodic protection system audit to assure appropriate level three protection. A detailed engineering assessment was completed following the field data collection phase to develop a corrosion mitigation program. |
