Pipeline Integrity
TechCorr is an industry leader in Pipeline Integrity Management.
Considering the nature of the pipeline infrastructure in North
America and the recent changes to the regulations, the questions
that are on all operators minds are:
- “How can I manage my pipelines in a cost effective manner
to support my company’s objectives for integrity and safety?”
- “How can I ensure that my pipeline
is and remains fit for purpose?”
- “What program(s) should I use to effectively
set my reassessment intervals?”
- “How will I be able to comply with
the changing regulatory environment?”
With the use of sound technology and proper planning, Pipeline
Integrity CAN be managed and fitness for purpose can be determined,
repairs made and mitigation practices established that will ensure
a safety of your assets. TechCorr is one of the few companies able
to provide a truly integrated approach to pipeline integrity by
offering the following services:
Consulting Services
Whether you choose a prescriptive or a non-prescriptive country
standard to meet regulatory compliance requirements your company
will be required to plan and budget for this process. Gathering
specific pipeline integrity data, knowing what data to gather,
how to verify it and assess the risks on a pipe segment by segment
basis will be required during the pre and post assessment phases
of any pipeline integrity project. TechCorr is an industry leader
in providing pipeline integrity people, process and technology
to meet the toughest regulatory problems.
Pre/Post Assessment Services include but are not limited to the
following:
- Project Management
- Preliminary country specific regulatory audits
- Data gathering
and verification
- Data input
- Data interpretation & analysis
- Risk analysis & assessment
- In-Line inspection planning & management
- Direct Assessment
(DA) planning & management
- Mechanical damage assessments (ASME
B31g, RSTRENG, etc.)
- Pipeline remediation and repair planning & management

Cathodic Protection & Surveys
TechCorr provides the complete range of indirect inspection technologies
and services to meet any pipeline integrity requirement. Indirect
inspection includes aboveground surveys used to define the severity
of coating faults, the effectiveness of the CP System and whether
there are active / inactive corrosion features along the pipeline.
To meet Direct Assessment (DA) standards, two or more survey techniques
(I.e. technologies) must be used to over the entire pipeline segment
with the resulting data aligned and analyzed to develop an accurate
picture the potential for corrosion.
The proper tools must be utilized in above ground pipeline surveys
to ensure that the most accurate data acquisition takes place to
support any regulatory or industry standard. These surveys include
Close Interval Potential (CIPS), Direct Current Voltage Gradient
(DCVG) and Current Attenuation (C-Scan & PCM) and GPS.
TechCorr follows the proposed NACE standard for data acquisition
for Above Ground Coating Evaluation and utilized the DA Meter to
combine the datasets for an aligned presentation. TechCorr offers
our clients the full range of capability associated with the PICS
application suite by Baker Hughes as our preferred survey data
analysis tool.
Direct Examination
TechCorr provides the complete range of Direct Examination
technologies and services to meet any pipeline integrity requirement.
Direct Examination requires exposure of the pipe to quantify and
assess any and all defects found.
Direct Examination utilizes indirect inspection data to prioritize
sites for excavation. A direct examination of the pipeline surface
is then carried out using a systematic forensic approach to understand
why corrosion occurred at a specific location and the extent of
such damage. This step might include investigating why the coating
holiday occurred, understanding PH at the coating surface and the
composition of any liquids identified within the coating holiday,
the pipe to soil potentials, the soil resistivity at depth, to
calculate the remaining strength utilizing B31G or RSTRENG criteria
and finally a microbiological evaluation of soils and fluids present.
Additionally, during the direct examination phase, a detailed evaluation
of the anomalies utilizing ultrasonic mapping techniques to better
understand the extent of damage may be performed. Finally, in the
event the defects are occurring in continuous or clustered patterns,
Guided Wave Ultrasonics might be used to create a larger “Foot
Print” to determine the extent of the corrosion beyond the
excavation.
Direct examination Services ( also known as “in-the-ditch” services
include but are not limited to the following:
- Traditional NDE
- Magnetic particle
- Liquid/Dye penetrant
- Ultrasonic (hand
held)
- Environmental
- Soils analysis
(Ph, MIC, etc.)
- Advanced NDE
- AUT inspection
and mapping
- Laser inspection
and mapping
- Long Range Guided Wave Ultrasonic
- Alternating Current Field Measurement
In-Direct Inspection Services
- General Surveys
- Pipeline GPS survey
- Pipeline depth of cover survey
- Cathodic Protection
(CP) Surveys
- Pipe-to-soil potential survey
- Close Interval
Potential Survey (CIPS)
- Hot spot survey
- Electrical isolation
tests
- Bonds measurement
- Rectifier inspection
- Ground beds and
connections
- Casings
- Coating Surveys
- Alternating current
attenuation
- Pipeline Current Mapper (PCM)
- C-SCAN
- Direct Current Voltage Gradient survey (DCVG)
Knowing exactly where
your pipeline is and the depth of cover are the first steps in
an accurate survey. Following the above ground surveys, locating
the exact location for excavation can save time and money.
TechCorr integrates sub-meter accuracy GPS when performing all
survey work from simple test station readings to complete real-time
data acquisition while surveying pipelines for coating holidays
or cathodic protection system monitoring.
TechCorr utilizes the Trimble’s XRP system w/ the Terra-Sync
and Pathfinder Office software for post processing which provides
the highest accuracy down to the sub-meter level.
